The start of the 2014 WPCA Pro Tour presented by Rocky Mountain Equipment and Case iH kicked off on Wednesday night with the 37th running of the Grande Prairie Stompede Championship in Grande Prairie, Alberta. Rick Fraser came into this year’s event as both the defending Grande Prairie champion, as well as the defending the World Champion Chuckwagon Driver that he won for the 2nd time in 2013.

Weather conditions were cool under partly cloudy skies, racetrack conditions were reasonably good, and some great races were seen by the Grande Prairie chuckwagon fans on opening night of the professional chuckwagon season nonetheless. When the night wrapped up it was 2-time Grande Prairie Champion Jason Glass who ended up with the top time of the night with a penalty free run of 1:16.98.

Coming off barrel number 4 in heat number 7, Glass, driving the Birchcliff Energy Ltd. outfit placed first overall for the day by a whopping 1.91 seconds over Sophomore driver Chad Fike who placed 2nd overall for the night. Logan Gorst was third, while Chad Harden and Tim Haroldson split 4th and 5th on the night.

The Grande Prairie Stompede is also the first leg of the Sierra Cup series presented by GMC. The top wagon in the aggregate after Saturday's run will receive the Ralph Vigen Memorial Award. The top 4 drivers in the aggregate after Saturday night will go into the championship final heat on Sunday where the winner will receive a $25,000.00 winner’s cheque, a new GMC Truck, a Jayco Fifth Wheel and the Grande Prairie Stompede Championship.

Day two of the Grande Prairie Stompede can be heard live Thursday night, May 29, 2014 on Rural Radio on SiriusXM Channel 80 or on Country 99 at 99.7 FM out of Bonnyville starting at 9:00pm Eastern, 8:00pm Central, 7:00pm Mountain Time.

Guy Weadick Days Postponed Until July 17-20, 2014

The World Professional Chuckwagon Association (WPCA) and the High River Ag Society have made the difficult decision to postpone Guy Weadick Days from June 19-22, 2014 until July 17-20, 2014.

With heavy rain and a local flood watch it was deemed by WPCA track officials that the conditions were unsafe for competition and might not be ready even with just a one day postponement. . This decision was not made lightly by either group, but as with everything the WPCA and the High River Ag Society put the safety of the horses, drivers, and outrider first.

A favourite stop on the WPCA Pro Tour presented by Rocky Mountain Equipment and Case iH, the drivers and WPCA personnel are excited about returning on the July 17 - 20 weekend.

After an unscheduled weekend off, the 2014 WPCA Pro Tour presented by Rocky Mountain Equipment and Case iH resumed Thursday night with the first leg of chuckwagon racing’s unofficial “Triple Crown” at one of one of chuckwagon racing’s biggest and most prestigious events – the Ponoka Stampede. Weather and track conditions were excellent, and it was an entertaining evening of racing for the Ponoka Stampede fans. Former Ponoka Stampede and reigning World Champion Chuckwagon Driver Rick Fraser opened up the 2014 Ponoka Stampede with the fast time of the night with a 1:15.40.

Coming off barrel number 4 in the 6th heat, Fraser - driving the Northwell Oilfield Hauling Inc. outfit - placed first on the night by a mere 7 one-hundredths of a second over former Colonial Days Champion Layne MacGillivray. Former Ponoka Stampede champion Jason Glass was third, Kurt Bensmiller was fourth, Chad Harden rounded out the top five for the night.

The top 8 in the aggregate after Monday night’s run will go into the semi-final round and make up heats 8 & 9. The top 4 times from the semi final round on June 30 will go into the $50,000.00 Tommy Dorchester Sudden Death Championship final heat where the winner will drive off in a new GMC Sierra Pickup Truck and take home the 2014 Ponoka Stampede Championship.

Day 2 of the Ponoka Stampede Championship can be heard on WPCA Pro Tour LIVE on Friday night, June 27, 2014 at 9:00pm Eastern, 8:00pm Central, and 7:00pm Mountain time on Rural Radio on SiriusXM Channel 80 or on Country 99 at 99.7 FM out of Bonnyville.

It was an exciting night of chuckwagon racing on WPCA Pro Tour presented by Rocky Mountain Equipment and Case iH at the Ponoka Stampede. Weather and track conditions were perfect for the second consecutive night, and some outstanding races were witnessed by a huge Ponoka crowd. Former Ponoka Stampede Champion Jason Glass was best on the night with a penalty free run of 1:15.39.

For the second consecutive night, the day money was off barrel number 4 in the 6th heat, and Glass - driving the Birchcliff Energy Ltd. outfit - placed first on the night by just 10 one-hundredths of a second over Colt Cosgrave, with Chad Harden, Kurt Bensmiller and Chanse Vigen rounding out the top five wagons on the night.

The day money run also put Jason Glass atop the overall aggregate standings with a 2 day combined time of 2:31.19. That puts him 55 one-hundredths of a second in front of Chad Harden in second, followed closely by Kurt Bensmiller, Colt Cosgrave, Rick Fraser, with Evan Salmond, Layne MacGillivray and Kirk Sutherland making out the top eight gunning for a spot in the semi final round.

The top 8 in the aggregate after Monday night’s run will go into the semi-final round and make up heats 8 and 9. The top 4 times from the semi final round on June 30 will go into the $50,000.00 Tommy Dorchester Sudden Death Championship final heat where the winner will drive off in a new GMC Sierra Pickup Truck and take home the 2014 Ponoka Stampede Championship.

Day 3 of the Ponoka Stampede Championship can be heard on WPCA Pro Tour LIVE on Saturday night, June 28, 2014 at 9:00pm Eastern, 8:00pm Central, and 7:00pm Mountain time on Rural Radio on SiriusXM Channel 80 or on Country 99 at 99.7 FM out of Bonnyville.
